{Event Recap} A Royal Rainbow Court

Hear ye! Hear ye! May the Royal Birthday commence!

My youngest daughter adores princesses! Why? Because her sister loves princesses. My oldest loves Sleeping Beauty, because she's the "pink" princess. She then assigned Cinderella to my youngest. Of course my youngest also has a love for Sleeping Beauty, because her sister loves her. When asked what she wanted her birthday theme to be she just couldn't decide on a single princess. Every day it changed (which is kind of stressful to a mom trying to plan). I finally decided to choose a Rainbow Royal Court theme so she wouldn't have to pick just one. It also included all the little princes who wanted to come! We held the event at a local children's gym so the kids could play and have lots of fun.

During the gym portion of the event I served snacks for all the moms and dads to enjoy while they watched the kids running around. I tried to come up with lots of fun names for all of the food labels and stick to the rainbow theme for the food.

For the favors I made prince crowns and reversible capes (later to become super hero capes if the boys preferred after the party) for all the boys. I found two awesome tutorials online from Small Things and HowDoesShe on how to make them. For the princesses I had sparkly tiaras and homemade rainbow tutus. I used the favors to decorate the kids' food table when the guests first arrived.

Then during the gym time I handed them out for everyone to wear. This created some super cute pictures of all the kids running around in costume on the gym equipment.

After playing in the gym we only had 30 minutes allotted for the food and cake. I decided to preset the table with ice cube trays filled with healthy rainbow snacks for the kids.

This worked out so well! None of the parents had to run around trying to serve their kids, it gave lots of options for each of them to choose from, and it looked so pretty!!! Inside the tray I served raspberries, strawberries, oranges, carrots, string cheese, hummus, crackers, pineapple, dried snap peas, cucumbers, blue chips, blueberries, black berries, and purple grapes!

After all the healthy fare the kids got to enjoy mini cupcakes with rainbow, glittery, fondant tiaras.

I would say the event was a royal success! All of the princes, princesses, and chauffeurs seemed to have a wonderful time.

{Event Recap} Vintage Lemon Wedding

Time to share one of my favorite weddings that I've gotten to work. I loved this wedding for several reasons.

First, I loved the couple!

I met them at a board gaming group so I knew they'd be my type of people. I was so excited when I found out they were getting married and needed a coordinator for their big day. Second, I loved all the wonderful details about this wedding.

The bride and her mother worked so hard to coordinate all the planning beforehand and I had so much fun bringing it all together the day of and pulling off their vision. Depsite this, it was also one of my most difficult weddings as well. It was set in beautiful Ventura, California, but between a combination of hot, hot sun that kept me in a constant sweat, gusts of winds that brought down some of the lighting and the seating chart during set up, and lots and lots and lots and lots of endless (but fabulous) details that needed to be set out in a short amount of time; I had my work cut out for me!

The wedding was partly inspired by the location, a lovely lemon grove. Guests were invited to pick lemons during the cocktail hour and the candy bar was set up on a vintage lemonade stand.

The rest of the wedding used lots of other vintage and rustic touches. There was:

burlap and lace

vintage bird cages

music sheets

old books

mercury glass centerpieces (created by the bride)

antique style art

and vintage furniture

all scattered about the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception in fabulous vignettes. Here's a little word from the bride herself regarding her wedding inspiration:
Mercury Glass! I love mercury glass, I love it so much. All my Christmas tree ornaments for the past five years have been Mercury Glass and I knew I wanted to have the look of it in my wedding. Lucky for me the reproduction stuff was popular and I was able to easily find vessels for my center pieces, and make clear glass look like Mercury glass with mirror paint. Burlap was another must have for the wedding, and I was able to find the stuff for cheap on Craigslist another great resource for DIY brides. I found table runners and an aisle runner already trimmed with lace for a steal from an ad on Craigslist. Overall I knew I wanted my wedding to have a vintage feel and went with: mercury glass, burlap, lace, bird cages, vintage furniture and vintage sheet music.

Here are some more photos of the day for you to enjoy.

And a final word from the bride regarding hiring a coordinator for her big day:
I hired my coordinator for the month of since I had all the major things planned, and I was able to hand over everything to her so she could follow-up with vendors and make sure everything was on track and she helped me think of things I didn’t think of since I am not a wedding planner and she was able to procure those vendors or items for me. My photographer couldn’t believe how relaxed I was.
