{Event Recap} Board Game Birthday

Okay, now that my husband is 34 I should probably get around to sharing his 33rd birthday! Inspired by table top game day (Saturday, March 30, 2013) I decided to get off my butt and write the post already!


One of my best friends and my husband have birthdays just 3 days apart so we typically celebrate them together. This year they both requested a board game party.


Over the last few years we've discovered the world of Euro games and turned into some serious board game geeks.


We're anxiously awaiting our children to get old enough so we can have some serious family board game nights. We're very excited that at four our oldest is slowly being trained in some of the simpler games.

But back to the party! The colors had to be green and orange, because those are the birthday boy's and girl's color of choice when picking playing pieces. We threw in white accents since another board game addict friend's birthday was a few weeks previously and he likes playing white! I grabbed a cheap Ikea rug from my kids' room and hung it up as a backdrop for the table. The rug reminded me of a whimsical children's game board; and it had all the right colors to match the party theme.


I broke the table up between appetizers and desserts. I didn't want to have separate tables since most of the rooms were going to be full of empty tables on which to play games.


There are so many games we enjoy, but I tried to focus on some of the favorites of the birthday boy and girl, and ones I could easily replicate in food form! All of the food signs were designed to imitate cards from the Munchkin card game. This was especially fun to design since the cards are all humorous and silly. For appetizers we served chicken salad, pigs in a blanket,

and Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms
For the desserts I got some help from the wonderful Jessy of Fairytale Frosting, who created amazing "tile" cookies to replicate pieces from the game Carcassonne.

{Photo shoot} Sugar & Spice Thanksgiving

Wait, what? Does that say Thanksgiving??? Yes it does! Since the end of the year got so hectic with my move and the holidays I never got a chance to share all the fabulous photos from my Thanksgiving photo shoot for Bird's Party Magazine with everyone. So now that I have a bit more time I wanted to finally let you all see all the wonderful photos by Sarah Vinson Photography that you didn't get to see in the magazine. When coming up with a party design I love working with traditional themes and palettes, but I really enjoy including a fun or unique twist. For this sugar and spice table I wanted to design a tablescape fit for a little girl's Thanksgiving. I chose traditional colors of orange, brown and white and added in a fun feminine twist by including an abundance of pink! The table still has a warm harvest feeling with the inclusion of traditional elements like pinecones, fall leaves, pumpkins and acorns. The addition of all the fun pink details like the napkin rings, placemats, pink florals and the graphic table cloth makes it also look very fun and modern.
I also wanted to do something different with the napkin rings, menus and place cards. Instead of traditional printed designs I opted to include more kid friendly craft ideas. These items are a great opportunity for the little hostess to have fun in assembling the table herself and for cute keepsakes for her guests. The napkin rings were plastic children's bracelets I found at the local dollar store.
The place cards were acorns I glued onto ribbon and decorated with glitter and beads.
The menus were assembled out of pine cones, paper and other crafting materials.

{Event Recap} Pan & Tink Boy/Girl Birthday

Early last year (ya I know that's how far behind I am on these posts!!!) I got asked to style a combo boy/girl birthday party for a little 2 and 4 year old. The mom asked for a Tinkerbell and Peter Pan theme using pink for the girls and green for the boys. I decided to focus on a woodsy, tree house style with lots of brown and beige to accent the pink and green. The dessert table was set up on the back deck under a beautiful wood plank awning. I covered the entire awning with strands of green felt leaf garlands. This gave the impression of being under a forest canopy with the Lost Boys. The table itself was covered in a burlap fabric and all the platters were wood slices in different shapes and sizes. The treats included:

I continued the decor throughout the rest of the party. When the guests arrived they entered along a walkway lined with silk Gerber daisies and pink and green fairy houses staked into the ground. Each of these were adorned with a tiny paper Tinkerbell silhouette. Wooden ships sat on the tables with pink and green pirate sails and the canopies were all draped in festive pink and green crepe paper.


All of the guests were asked to come dressed in costumes matching the theme. Even some of the parents were garbed in pirate attire and pajamas.



During the event the kids had lots of activities and crafts to keep them busy.

And of course a visit from Peter Pan and Tinkerbell!

At the end of the event as the guests left each kid got to take a fairy catching kit or book home with them!

EEAD MIA

I thought I'd write a quick post telling everyone what it is I've been doing, since I obviously haven't been posting to the blog! I have a huge backlog of parties to share with everyone, but no time to edit and post them, unfortunately. What has been taking up all my time has been this:


Enchanted Events & Design has moved (along with the rest of my family of course). It has been super exciting, stressful and time consuming. The house needed a lot of TLC and personality so I've been spending all of my extra time painting, unpacking boxes, painting, shopping, painting ... you get the picture. On top of everything I only closed my Etsy shop down for a week, so I've been attempting to work through the chaos. One of the absolute best parts though is that I will have a lovely new office, with lots more room that no longer doubles as a guest room! I love it and I will hopefully get a chance to share pictures with you if I ever finish unpacking!

{Event Recap} Alexa's Bright and Sunny Elmo Birthday

I was very excited when a former client contacted me to help her design her daughter's birthday party again this year! Last year I designed a yummy Candy Shoppe party for her 1st birthday. This year Alexa turned two and, of course, is in LOVE with Elmo. However, her mother didn't want to throw the standard Sesame Street party using primary colors. Instead I focused on using really bright girly colors for the design. The tables were covered in red (of course), orange, yellow, pink and white with lots of little Elmo accent pieces and polka dots.


The desserts included lots of mini Elmos all over the table!

which was topped with a pink street sign with Alexa's name on it.
My client also got a super yummy recipe for lemon blossoms from Paula Deen and those were a huge hit, as well as a perfect color match for the design.

For the food table I combined both bright and colorful dishes with kid friendly fare. The menu was made up of a beautiful summer pizza, fresh fruit, croissant and PB&J sandwiches, corn dogs, and fruit and veggie platters arranged to look like Sesame Street characters (thank you Pinterest)!
