{Photo shoot} Sugar & Spice Thanksgiving

Wait, what? Does that say Thanksgiving??? Yes it does! Since the end of the year got so hectic with my move and the holidays I never got a chance to share all the fabulous photos from my Thanksgiving photo shoot for Bird's Party Magazine with everyone. So now that I have a bit more time I wanted to finally let you all see all the wonderful photos by Sarah Vinson Photography that you didn't get to see in the magazine. When coming up with a party design I love working with traditional themes and palettes, but I really enjoy including a fun or unique twist. For this sugar and spice table I wanted to design a tablescape fit for a little girl's Thanksgiving. I chose traditional colors of orange, brown and white and added in a fun feminine twist by including an abundance of pink! The table still has a warm harvest feeling with the inclusion of traditional elements like pinecones, fall leaves, pumpkins and acorns. The addition of all the fun pink details like the napkin rings, placemats, pink florals and the graphic table cloth makes it also look very fun and modern.

I also wanted to do something different with the napkin rings, menus and place cards. Instead of traditional printed designs I opted to include more kid friendly craft ideas. These items are a great opportunity for the little hostess to have fun in assembling the table herself and for cute keepsakes for her guests. The napkin rings were plastic children's bracelets I found at the local dollar store.

The place cards were acorns I glued onto ribbon and decorated with glitter and beads.

The menus were assembled out of pine cones, paper and other crafting materials.

One last Christmas post!

So I shared with you my Christmas table design back in December in my Reuse, Recycle, Revamp Your Holiday Table post. However, by the time Christmas morning rolled around the design had took on a few changes that I wanted to share with all of you.

One of the biggest changes I made was because everyone who joins us for our Christmas breakfast is a couple I try and pick out at least two ornaments as the place cards so that each couple will get two different ornaments to bring home with them. This year I chose four different ornaments in complementing colors (black, blue, silver and white).

I also changed the centerpiece design because Santa brought me a new one to use on Christmas morning! I think I might just ask Santa to bring me table decor every year now. I also bought fresh flowers.

And of course the other change was that this table actually had food on it!

I made all of the dishes from my Williams-Sonoma Breakfast cookbook.

-Eggs Benedict
-Roasted Tomatoes
-Red Flannel Hash

Reuse, Recycle, Revamp your Holiday Table!

So I decided to do something different for my holiday table this year. Usually I try and come up with something I haven't done before. This year, however, I did a spin off of last year's table. I did this because the average woman (especially a newlywed) doesn't have a stockpile of table decorations lying around their home. And let's face it, there couldn't be a worse time than the holidays to find extra money to splurge on these items. So what is a poor girl to do?

I decided to start with a staple every bride should have available ... my wedding china and flatware! The dishes were the start of both of my holiday designs. I didn't want to have two completely identical tables (what's the fun in that?), but I wanted to create two looks using common items and other affordable options.

Here are the two designs!

2010 - Formal Holiday Dinner

2009 - Holiday Brunch

Now for the details! I'll start with describing the items in my 2009 design.

I decided to accentuate the white and blue of the dishes in this look. I laid out a simple white tablecloth (on sale from a fabric store) and put silver chargers (from a dollar store) under the china. Each year I use an ornament for a place card (so each person will have a memento for their tree to take home). Last year I was inspired by Martha Stewart's Sweetgum-Fruit Wreath, since I have this tree in my front yard and tons of the spiny fruit fall from it. I decided to make mini wreaths for each person and used the extra fruit to craft silver trees for the table. Because this design is more casual I used paper napkins dressed up with snowflake napkin holders I got at an after Christmas sale at Target. For my centerpiece I raided my Christmas tree decorations! I got a clear glass vase and stuffed it with white stuffing. Then I stuffed sparkly white branches and hung all the small blue and silver ornaments I could find in my collection from them. Lastly, I found some silver tinsel garland from the dollar store and strung it up and down the table.

For my 2010 transformation I again started with the same china and dollar store chargers. I laid my white fabric down on the table and covered it with a cotton damask fabric I purchased at the fabric store. For my centerpiece I found the candle pillar holder at Target for only $19.99 and filled it with silver and blue ornaments I found in my ornament collection. You can also see the sparkly white branches from last years centerpiece in it as well! For the place cards this year I found these pretty black ornaments for $2 each at Target. I further dressed up the table setting by printing my own menus. The silver sweetgum-fruit trees are getting used again alongside some fresh flowers. Finally I strung some larger blue and silver ornaments from the ceiling all of which came from a dollar store!

I hope you enjoyed my table transformation. I'd love to hear what you do to create a fresh and beautiful table each year without breaking the bank.

{Product Line} Spring has Sprung!

I'm really excited about my new product line! It's overcast and gloomy in Los Angeles this morning so hopefully this line can brighten everyone's day. I think this is the perfect design for a sunny spring bride.

Spring has Sprung Collection

I was inspired by the standard cupcake topper design. They always reminded me of little flowers sticking up out of the cupcakes. I thought they would look so cute as escort "cards" all lined up on a registration table like a field of flowers. Each guest could find their name with the table number printed on it and "pluck" their flower to find their seat. There could even be a cute little holder at the tables for the guests to "replant" their flowers.

Escort Flowers

From this basic design I worked with the flower concept and came up with the rest of the items in the collection.

For the favor tags I wanted to do something else a little different so I decided to make them double-sided! One side has a cute little thank you message to your guests and the other side has the couple's monogram.

I hope you all enjoy this collection as much as I do. Look for it in the EEAD Etsy shop soon or you can email me about it.

Come back tomorrow for an exciting jewelry giveaway!!! Marit of Marit Erickson Jewelry Design is giving me some beautiful earrings from her shop to one lucky reader of my blog. So stay tuned!
